Privacy
MapToGrid is a static site. There is no server to send your data to.
What leaves the browser
- Requests for this site's own files (pages, scripts, fonts, the engine, the country data).
- Basemap styles, tiles, fonts and sprites from CARTO, or from OpenFreeMap only when CARTO cannot be shown. Requests to CARTO carry this site's CARTO basemap key, which identifies the site and nothing about you. Tile requests reveal the map area you are looking at to the provider on screen, as with any web map; the attribution in the corner of the map names it.
- In OpenStreetMap mode only, a query naming the bounding box of your region, sent to the public Overpass server overpass-api.de, and also to overpass.kumi.systems and overpass.private.coffee when it is slow or busy. Synthetic mode, the default, sends nothing about your region anywhere.
- If you use an AI agent with WebMCP in this tab, the agent receives the answers of the tools it calls (summaries and query results about the open grid). Where it sends them is up to the agent; the app itself sends nothing.
What stays on your device
- Regions you draw, every generated grid, every solve, and every export.
- Your preferences (layout, projection, motion), kept in this browser's local storage. Clearing site data removes them.
- OpenStreetMap answers, kept in this browser's cache for a day so that a repeat does not query the servers again.
- The URL in the address bar, which encodes the current region and parameters so you can share it.
What we do not do
- No accounts, no sign-in.
- No analytics, no tracking scripts, no cookies.
- No third-party fonts or scripts; everything is served from this site's origin.
